The Stomach Balloon

Bariatrics - stomach balloon For the stomach balloon, a balloon made of soft silicone is inserted endoscopically in to the stomach. The balloon is then inflated with a sterile saline solution. This takes up a large part of the stomach volume, achieving an early feeling of fullness when eating.

The balloon remains in the stomach for a maximum of 6 months. It is used most frequently for grade II obesity, or in preparation for a further surgical procedure in more extreme obesity.

The intervention is undertaken as a day case.
